i'm officially saying goodbye to blogging. the wedding has already become a distant memory, but also a marker for all the changes that followed. since then, so much has happened including moving into my first home, becoming a student again by starting graduate school, and of course, becoming a wife. it's all very exciting and my life right now requires a full commitment on my part. it's been fun, though! adios- - -

the ceremony space was transformed into our dining area while we were on the trolley tour. we all sat at one long family-style table.

in addition to the flowers, much of the decor and rentals were all beautifully done thanks to my new bff and floral designer, andrew anderson from ilex in the south end. he's got impeccable taste and such a pleasure to work with. to say that i wouldn't have been able to pull off this wedding if it wasn't for andrew would be an understatement. he's won several best of boston awards, including one for this year, and it's easy to see why.

the food was provided by hammersley's bistro. this restaurant just happens to be next door to the gallery, so we managed to get them to cater our wedding. jinsoo + i are very much foodies so dinner was a very important part of the night. the meal was delicious (!!!!) and we are planning to go to hammersley's for our 1 year anniversary.

that's gordon hammersley himself wearing his signature red sox hat in the makeshift kitchen that was set up behind the scenes.

cake inspired by april reed. it was a white cake with passionfruit filling and yellow fondant made by jeanne topham. yummmm.

since most of our guests were from out of town (new york, singapore, california, denver, korea) we hopped aboard a trolley for a tour of boston after the ceremony. we personalized it a little bit to include suffolk law (jinsoo's school) and harvard (my school) and some of our favorite spots in the city (including fenway park, of course). we even got the driver to pull over at the public garden where we had a little photo session with liz. some more pictures were taken of us strolling the streets of the south end since we wanted to take advantage of the charming brown stones and cobblestone paths. so boston.

since nothing about the wedding was very traditional, we decided to have our cocktail hour as guests arrived. guests nibbled on 떡 and sipped on 식해 as they settled into the gallery. music was provided by the great jazz of the eric baldwin trio. the food, the drinks, and even the music were all provided by friends and family which made it all the more special.

i've posted about our invitations before so i won't get into the details, but did want to share some pictures. i found the yellow stamps on ebay and had one of my cousins write the addresses on the front. i'm completely obsessed with the wrap around labels that were designed to go on the envelopes.

i loved elisabeth's work so much that i knew she would have to make our thank you cards. elisabeth was one of my favorite vendors so it broke my heart when she disappeared and abandoned me in the midst of our thank you card planning. i ended up getting lovely little cards from snow and graham, but still can't help but wonder what happened to my stationer. i guess this would be my horrible wedding related story to share, and feel somewhat fortunate because things could have been worse.

there are many pros and cons of city living, one of which is being sans car. i'm not going to complain though, since our neighborhood is so full of places to eat, shop, and walk around. late night strolls along the charles river, weekend farmers markets, and petsi pies is just some of the many reasons i love this area.

i'm thinking i wouldn't mind having a pretty little bike (even though i haven't been on a bike since i was 1O) if it looked something like this...

i've quickly moved on to my post-wedding life. my mind is (thankfully) no longer cluttered with thoughts about color schemes, candles, or schedules. i have our wonderful honeymoon to thank for that. our trip to the west coast was a perfect segue into married life. we had lots of good food, good wine, and good times. seriously though, i think honeymoons were designed to distract brides from the chaos of the previous week(s). so my next big project in life is setting up our new apartment. we move on thursday and we're busy packing boxes and getting furniture and other things. we had a yard sale last weekend and are starting off with a fresh start. tv, bed sheets, sofa, rugs, cups, etc, etc, etc.. it's all so overwhelmingly fun.i thank god for jinsoo's genuine interest in domestic things, 1O% off at crate and barrel and also for massachusetts tax-free weekend.

this is another fun diy project that i've been looking forward to. i got the idea from (who else) martha. i modified the project by using a 8.5 x 11" paper and trimming it a bit and then cutting into four pieces. i then used a bone folder to crease the paper and used double side tape (half it's width) on 3 of the edges instead of glue.

these will be perfect for our cocktail hour snacks- 떡 ("dduk"):

...there is one Korean sweet that is very uniquely Korean - dduk. Dduk is a general term for a whole family of mostly sweet pastries made with a base of rice flour. Many people will call it a rice cake, but I choose not to, since dduk is absolutely nothing like those detestable diet puffed rice styrofoam disks. No, Korean dduk is similar to Japanese mochi, and comes in a huge variety of shapes, sizes, flavors, and colors.

a completed project: little envelopes filled with homemade confetti. 2 teaspoons to be exact.

i used mixed a bag of store bought white paper confetti and added hole-punched yellow paper and hole-punched yellow vellum paper (using a 9/16" hole punch). i like the variety in colors, sizes, and textures.

this will be included in our program and thrown as we walk down the aisle after the ceremony.

i love our invitations. i had to hold myself back from posting on this blog, until i knew everyone received them. we went back and forth with many wonderful ideas, but ultimately decided on the boston skyline (including fenway park, of course). the response card has a trolley with a "please respond by.." trailing behind it since we are planning on having a trolley tour of the city in between the ceremony and the reception for all our out of town guests. i'm also smitten with the wrap-around labels on the envelopes just because they are so damn cool.

thank you to elisabeth of black pearl press for putting my vision onto paper. she is such a pleasure to work with and it was so much fun to hear about her own plans for her upcoming barn wedding in vermont. i would totally recommend her for all your letter pressing needs.

i'll post actual pictures of my invitations soon. they're so much lovelier in person.

jinsoo + i stopped by the gallery today with our floral designer, andrew, to start finalizing the layout and decor of the wedding. with the beautiful space, along with andrew's impeccable taste, i think we will be able to transform the gallery into the minimal-but-not-too-sparse, modern-but-not-too-trendy, simple-but-not-too-boring look that we're trying to achieve.

jinsoo and i have been on a hunt for grey and yellow skinny ties. i've always had a thing for them and i'm so glad they're making a comeback! there's just something about them that look so cool. places we've seen skinny ties so far: urban outfitters, calvin klein, club monaco, + ralph lauren.

registering was one thing that jinsoo and i started early on. we sipped on mimosas and nibbled on yummy food as we went trigger happy at the wedding event at crate and barrel. since then, we've also started an account on myregistry.com for the miscellaneous items from miscellaneous stores.

but let's be realistic... koreans give cash. i've been trying to think of alternatives to the traditional korean money sack and the boring old card box.

kate spade card, carrie bike basket, + white peony wedding card box (via something old, something new). something similar to the now-discontinued the no. 1O mailbox would also look nice.

about 4 or 5 years ago, jinsoo and i bought a piggy bank. we half-jokingly said that we would buy our wedding rings with the money that accumulates. well.. coincidentally, we just filled up the piggy bank and cashed in the coins. here's what was inside:

1 $1O bill + 7 $1 bills + 1 dollar coin + 1,095 quarters + 944 dimes + 592 nickels + 1,887 pennies = $434.62

we were so suprised at how much the coins added up to! maybe the wedding ring idea wasn't so crazy after all.

we had our first non-venue appointment this weekend (and many more to come). the picture above is of our complimentary pasteries from konditor meister, where we had a cake tasting yesterday morning. the cakes were delicious, but jinsoo and i agreed that our experience was very unpleasant. their customer service was horrible and our bridal consultant was very pushy. their design options are very limited and so not our style.

someone should write a modern-day goldilocks where she looks for a venue that is "just right". girls don't eat porridge anymore.. they get married. finding a venue was such a nightmare. the places that we've been looking at have been too big, too ugly, too historic, too small, too expensive, too generic, too far.. and the list goes on.

but after 2 months of looking for our prefect venue, i think this may be the one. a beautiful gallery in the oh-so-cool south end. i love that it's a blank slate for us to do whatever our heart desires.

a datebook: to schedule all of your appointments and to-dos
binder(s): to store pretty much anything that can be hole punched
printable tabs: to mark, modify and/or create new categories in your binder
binder pockets: to keep all your magazine articles and in one place
page protectors: to protect your pages (duh)
expanding letter file: to keep your most important info. at your fingertips
bookends: to keep your books and magazines from spilling over
wire letter tray: to make your messy piles look just a little bit neater
letterbox: to store things that you would eventually want to end up in your scrapbook
label maker: oh, the possibilities are endless :)

sometimes, inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places. i ripped out this page from domino magazine about paint pallettes a while ago and stuck it in my inspiration binder. i just love the sophistication of the gray, cream, and taupe with the unexpected sweetness from the yellow accents.

i love russel and hazel's signature three-ring binder (apparently discontinued in white). i've made it into my own edited version of martha stewart's keepsake wedding planner. i've modified martha's version by adding my own articles and information in extra folders. this is probably going to be my go-to resource for most of my information.

i've also made an inspiration binder. just pages of (page protected, of course) collages that convey my vision for the color scheme, clothes, reception, flowers, etc. more on that later.
